Actor Chris Coghill recently made his debut as Kev Townsend in Emmerdale, and has certainly given Robert Sugden some food for thought.

Ahead of him joining the Dales, Emmerdale Producer, Laura Shaw, said: “We are delighted that someone of Chris’ calibre has joined our cast. I think the viewers will be intrigued to see how the character of Kev will cause shockwaves this autumn.”

The star is no stranger to appearing on the small screen, with roles including The Bay, Slow Horses and Shameless. He also had an explosive role in EastEnders as Tony King.

During Monday’s (September 29) installment, a mystery visitor arrived in the village to see Robert. It was revealed that the man is Kev Townsend – Robert’s husband.

Robert was shocked to see him, especially as he’s offered his support to ex-husband Aaron Dingle following John Sugden’s recent reign of terror.

He appeared visibly uncomfortable around Kev who asked for a kiss before suggesting the two of them go upstairs.

Asking why he was allowed day release following his crimes, Kev admitted that he had only been given six months to live – a statement that Victoria later grew suspicious of.

Robert told Victoria everything, that he was targeted in prison for being bisexual and “posh”. Kev had become a sort of protection for him, hence choosing to marry him.

In upcoming episodes, viewers are set to see how this new dynamic will work – and how will Aaron react to the news?

Chris took to his Instagram following his first scenes in the Dales, and wrote a three-word response.

Posting a snap of Kev and Robert together, he penned: “In a bit” – suggesting we’ll see a lot more of Kev over the next few months.

Fans of the soap flocked to the comments with support, as @taliebarnes wrote: “This episode was so fun ahhh so excited for this storyline”.
