Emmerdale aired a shocking twist on Thursday, hinting at the potential departure of two major characters from the ITV soap.

John Sugden woke up in hospital and to his relief, everyone bought into his lies about Robert Sugden. Robert found himself under arrest, accused of attempted murder, following John and his husband Aaron Dingle’s fall from a cliff.
Robert was framed by John after months of manipulation, leading everyone to believe that Robert had pushed the pair off the cliff. In chilling scenes on Thursday, Robert’s ordeal continued as he was interrogated by the police for a crime he didn’t commit.
Robert sobbed in a cell as the lead detective informed him that he was being charged with attempted murder and that he needed to be taken away. His pleas of innocence, including to his sister Victoria, fell on deaf ears with no one supporting him.

Before long, he found himself back in prison, making a desperate call to his sister, pleading for her help and asking her to protect Aaron. However, she rebuffed him and once again refused to believe him, a fatal error.
In that moment, Robert realised John was alone with an injured Aaron and he feared the worst. He implored Victoria to go to the room to help but she disowned him before hanging up the phone.
The fear was evident on his face, and he wasn’t the only one undoubtedly panicked given fans also know what John has done. As Aaron lay unconscious, John raged at him for “ruining everything” and told him he was “sorry” for what he had to do.
He said: “I still love you in spite of everything, but I think it’s for the best that you never wake up.”, reports the Mirror.

So will John kill Aaron, and will Aaron and Robert leave?

Viewers seem to think so as one person said on Twitter, now X: “Help, I’ve just had the terrifying realisation that John is Aaron’s power of attorney because they are married. So, if John wanted to, he could ask for Aaron’s life support to be turned off. (Not gonna be the case, but it’s terrifying to know he has that power) #Emmerdale.”

A different account put: “Get John tf away from Aaron he is so disgusting he better not try finish the job hope he’s found out soon only so much more I can deal with #emmerdale” while another added: “John is going to try & off Aaron, isn’t he? #emmerdale.”
