Tom Selleck Addresses Frank Reagan’s Potential Return In Blue Bloods Spinoff
Tom Selleck finally responded to the theories regarding his Blue Bloods character’s potential return in Boston Blue. The actor played the New York City Police Commissioner, Frank Reagan, in the flagship show for its entire 14-season run.
After the spinoff was announced, fans of Blue Bloods almost immediately began to wonder which characters would return, or at least guest star, in the new show. Selleck, who portrayed the father of Boston Blue’s protagonist, Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg), was someone who viewers wanted to see again.
Selleck also expressed his frustration with CBS for canceling the original show in 2024. He still couldn’t make any sense of the network’s decision, considering how popular the series was. The actor even claimed that dropping Blue Bloods was akin to getting rid of football. “It was a huge disappointment, and I still don’t know why CBS did it. If you get rid of the football, we were the sixth most popular series in all of television,” he explained.
This wasn’t the first time Selleck voiced his disappointment about the show’s cancellation. In a previous interview with TV Insider, the actor admitted that it was going to take a while for him to get over it. He condemned the network, “The show was always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go. So how do I feel? It’s going to take a long time to sort all of this out.”
Boston Blue releases new episodes every Friday at 10:00 PM ET and 7:00 PM PT on CBS. All available episodes of the show can be streamed on Paramount+.
